The AOC has been saving and transforming lives since its inception in 1986. The agency is the Southeast’s oldest, largest, and most comprehensive AIDS Service Organization.

 

Today, AIDS Outreach Center (AOC) began as a grassroots organization responding to the HIV epidemic. Since that time, AOC has been a leader in North Texas in the fight against HIV. Annually, 42 staff members provide services and education to over 2,000 people living with HIV and prevention services to over 3,500 people in our community.

Our Mission is to serve people living with or at risk for HIV with dignity and respect.

In our community, people living will with HIV receive quality care, and new infections are rare.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Plan and conduct/oversee special and ongoing programs, including classes, special interest groups, trips/outings, volunteer activities and special events.

 

Design programs that address the social, physical, and emotional needs of the senior population; the programs include various in-house activities as well as sub-contracted services geared toward enhancing quality of life.

 

Plan schedule of activities by the 10th of each month for the following month, promote programs for maximum participation.

 

Assess the needs of the participants and use that information to inform programming.

 

Ensure center is a safe environment; maintain participant confidentiality.

 

Assist in the preparation of budget estimates for the senior center programming.

 

Maintain appropriate records including attendance, trip files and financial reports of programs and activities.

 

Compile and submit monthly reports to Director of Client Services.

 

Organize and direct volunteer participation.

 

Participate in agency meetings, retreats, work sessions and events, as requested.

 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Client Services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in gerontology, administration or therapeutic recreation, or other related field associated with working with older adults and a minimum of 2-years professional experience in social/recreational programming and services Knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues; knowledge of grief and bereavement; knowledge of medical treatments available for HIV/AIDS; knowledge of family systems; knowledge of cultural/ethnic issues; knowledge of addiction process and behavior; knowledge of community resources; excellent written and verbal skills. Participate in ongoing continuing education activities; knowledge of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues; ability to work with diverse populations; ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; ability to effectively handle crisis/emergency situations; demonstrates a non-judgmental attitude toward clients, staff and volunteers; ability to discuss sex/sexuality issues in an appropriate manner with clients; ability to adapt quickly to change; ability to build rapport and utilize a holistic approach to change; ability to use a strengths-based perspective when working with clients; ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries; valid Texas driver's license and proven driving record.

 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Some evenings and occasional weekends required; some local travel required.
