  • Inspects all invoices/check requests for appropriate and complete documentation and approval prior to payment
  • Reviews check requests and other A/P documents to ensure correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper coding
  • Serve as backup to Housing Accounting Clerk
  • Support overall team efforts in times of need
  • Accurate entry of transactions into the accounting system (Blackbaud)
  • Process check requests according to company guidelines
  • Match invoices to checks, obtain all signatures for checks and distribute checks accordingly
  • Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies and respond to vendor inquiries
  • Assist in month and year end closings
  • Prepares monthly grants invoicing
  • Provides invoicing support to senior accountant in order to adequately invoice major government grantors when required and needed
  • Maintain files, and documentation, including copying/scanning, thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
  • Monitor activities to ensure accurate and timely processing of vendor payments, expense reports and other related company expenses. Self-starter with limited guidance
  • Secure W-9s into all vendor files
  • Prepare, review and distribute annual IRS Form 1099s to vendors, as appropriate.
  • Ensures that all A/P deadlines are met, and that management is routinely apprised of progress and issues
  • Supports month end cycle, including support and/or performing reconciliations of payables, cash, fix assets, depreciation, and other asset/liability/revenue/expense accounts.
  • Provides support for all filings, including grant documentation and audit support.
  • Complies with all internal policies, procedures and controls and suggests modifications when necessary
  • Aids in the maintenance of accounting systems, procedures and policies to ensure adherence to company guidelines
  • The Staff Accountant position requires confidentiality in the processing of sensitive and confidential data
  • Position duties may be restructured as necessary in order to maximize the ability of the finance team to meet the business needs of the agency
  • Other duties as assigned

Participation in AID Atlanta Meetings/Committees

Staff Accountant will participate in required meetings as identified by the Director of Finance and Executive Director.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor degree in finance or accounting
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit
