Responsibilities

A Medical Laboratory Technologist contributes to AHF mission by providing efficient result in the timeliest manner. Enhancing care to our clients seeking STI testing and treatment. We see each specimen at a person.
Our laboratory provides the latest and the greatest cutting edge technology in the profession and the Medical Technologist work to use it to our patient’s advantage The Medical Laboratory Technologist works to create a positive client experience and harmonious work environment.

 

Within their duties is the responsibility to work independently, as a testing personnel responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting and releasing test results. Fulfilling the requirement to work in a Moderately Complex testing environment.

 

As a member of our laboratory team you will actively participate in improving the lives of patients within our community in need of testing and treatment for STD and HIV/Aids. You will work in collaboration with the laboratory staff to ensure Quality Standard of Care is met.

 

 

License Requirement: Med Tech

Area of Supervisory License: Generalist,  Microbiology and Serology/immunology

Qualification:

  • ASCP certification, or equivalent
  • Current and Valid State of Florida Supervisor License in microbiology and immunology
  • Minimum five years laboratory work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Micro, immunology, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Clinical Molecular experience with PCR Analyzer 
  • Maintain Quality Assurance in accordance with CLIA Laboratory Standards
  • Supervisory experience in small to midsize Moderately Complex Laboratory

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer/Software Skills & Abilities
Should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret guidelines such as safety rules, universal precautions, operating and maintenance instructions, and program manuals.  Ability to document extensive reports accurately.  Ability to speak effectively in a group setting.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

Other Skills & Abilities/Qualifications
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
Must be primarily available to work on weekday, evenings, and weekends.
Must have reliable transportation with liability insurance.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Current HIV Pre and Post Test Counselor Certification.
Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
Current Certification in Phlebotomy preferred.
